Influences

Ottoman Empire

Family

Orhan Pamuk was very interested in Turkey, especially Istanbul's History, so naturally, he was influenced by the Ottoman empire. Many of his books use the Ottoman Empire as their setting (ex. White Castle).

Orhan is also influenced by his family greatly. His family was the way that he learned to write the books that he had became famous for. His daughter and other members of his family frequently appear as names for his characters (ex. In The Black Book, Galip's wife's name is Ruya, the same name as his daughter.)
